The Dodge Dakota, manufactured by Dodge from 1986 to 2011, was a popular midsize pickup truck known for its versatility and rugged performance. The first generation had body-on-frame construction and came with three different engine options: a 5.2-liter V8, a 3.9-liter V6, and a 2.2-liter inline-four. The second generation introduced a more aerodynamic design and refined capabilities, including the 5.9-liter V8 in the high-performance Dakota R/T model. The third generation had a more aggressive design with a bigger grille and a squared-off appearance. It also came with new engine options, such as the 3.7-liter V6 and the 4.7-liter V8, both of which could tow and haul heavy loads.

Despite its strengths, sales declined and the brand had to retire the Dakota in 2011 as a result of changing market conditions and fiercer competition. The truck was marketed under the Ram brand in its last couple of production years. The Dakota remains a significant model in American trucks' history, lauded for its innovation in the midsize segment and its enduring impact on the pickup market.
