1990s

The Dodge Omni, produced by Dodge from 1977 to 1990, was one of the first American subcompact cars to feature front-wheel drive, making it a highly efficient and affordable vehicle for its time. Throughout its manufacturing run, the Omni was available with a variety of engine options that progressively increased in power and performance. Initially, the Omni used a 1.7L inline-four engine from Volkswagen. Later, Chrysler introduced its own 2.2L inline-four engine. Early versions of the Omni used a 1.6L engine from Peugeot-Citroen, primarily for the Canadian market. The 2.2L turbocharged engine of the high-performance Omni GLH (Goes Like Hell) model could generate up to 175 horsepower in the GLH-S variant.

The interior of the Omni was straightforward and functional and can seat up to five people. The hatchback design allowed for fold-down rear seats, providing ample cargo space for a car its size. One of the vehicle's main selling points was its fuel efficiency, particularly in the late 1970s and 1980s, when fuel economy was a major concern for consumers. The Omni was a vital component of the American auto industry, offering a compact car that was practical, economical, and fuel-efficient. While its standard versions were utilitarian, the high-performance GLH and GLH-S models left a lasting mark on car enthusiasts. The Omni was replaced by the Dodge Shadow after it was discontinued.
