The Dodge Ramcharger was a full-size SUV produced by Dodge from 1974 to 1993 in the United States, with production continuing in Mexico until 2001. It was known for its ruggedness and off-road capability, serving as Dodge's response to popular full-size SUVs like the Chevrolet Blazer and Ford Bronco. Built on the same platform as the Dodge Ram pickup, the Ramcharger shared many components and offered similar durability and utility, making it a favorite among outdoor enthusiasts, off-roaders, and families seeking a versatile vehicle. The Ramcharger was a two-door, full-size SUV with a removable hardtop in early models and a fixed roof in later generations.
Most Ramcharger models had four-wheel drive (4WD); however, 2WD models were available. They were designed for off-roading. The part-time 4WD system had manual locking hubs, solid front and rear axles, and a low-range transfer case for off-road performance in mud, sand, and steep inclines. The vehicle was known for its impressive towing and payload capacity, making it a popular choice for those who needed a vehicle for both daily driving and heavy-duty tasks. The Ramcharger could tow trailers, boats, and other heavyweights between 5,000 and 8,000 pounds, depending on engine and configuration. After the Ramcharger was discontinued, it was succeeded by the Dodge Durango.
